App Development Basics

An app is a collection of screens, data and rules that respond to what a user does. This course introduces those ideas through Code.org App Lab and Thunkable. It combines foundation lessons with a large set of guided app examples, so learners can first understand a concept and then see it used in several contexts. The central aim is to design a small working app, explain its logic and test how it behaves when the input or user action changes.

Begin with App Lab design and programming basics. Create interface elements, give them meaningful identifiers and connect a user event to an action. Work with variables, arrays, conditions, dropdowns, visibility changes, loops and timers. These lessons provide the foundation for understanding a calculator, quiz, utility or interactive screen. Written notes explain state, input checking and debugging steps that can be reused across projects.

Continue with data tables and record operations. Study how a project stores, reads, displays and changes information, then follow profile and data-app examples. The project library includes learning prototypes involving registration, user profiles, voting, appointments, inventory, transport and library records. Use fictional data and understand what the example actually implements. A classroom login or password-recovery demonstration is a learning model and needs additional design work before it can be treated as a production account system.

The Thunkable track introduces another app-building environment through practical examples. Start with a number-table app, timer, menu, calculator, quiz, checklist and local-data example. Progress to image, music, camera and QR-scanning projects, then explore weather, translation, notifications and assistant-style interfaces. Compare the screen design, component properties, event blocks and data flow with the ideas already practised in App Lab. Keep platform-specific setup and permissions documented.

The extended App Lab sections provide communication, publishing, game and utility projects. Examples include messaging and blogging prototypes, voting tools, quizzes, writing pads and other interactive applications. Treat this part as a project library: complete the foundation modules, choose examples that develop the skills needed for your final app, and use additional recordings for further practice. For a multipart project, complete its recordings in sequence before moving to another example.

All 136 recordings are presented by Gaurav Kumar Jain. The final assignment asks learners to build a focused app with clear screens, a useful input-to-result flow and a tested data or state feature. App Lab projects are educational browser-based prototypes; Thunkable features, external integrations and publishing options depend on the supported platform setup. The course develops beginner app-building and problem-solving skills through these environments. It does not require every guided example to become a separate finished portfolio project.

Module Overview
Give each screen and interactive element a clear purpose and meaningful identifier. Identify the input, the event and the state that the code changes. Trace a variable or array from its initial value to the displayed result. Start with one simple interaction and add a condition only when you can explain the expected response to each input.

Lesson Overview: Learn the basics of Code - Ist Live Online Coding Class
Trace the initial values, the event or repeated step that changes them and the output displayed by the app. Give important elements and variables names that describe their purpose. Follow one small input-to-result flow before combining several conditions.

Practice Task
Create a small app interaction using the demonstrated concept and use different fictional inputs from the example. Predict two results before running it. Change one condition, loop bound or stored value and explain how the displayed output changes.

What to Check
Test a normal action, an empty or unexpected input and a repeated action or restart suited to this feature. Explain the event, the state or record changed and the result shown to the user.
Topic 02

Getting Started: Code.org - App Lab Tutorial - Simple App using Block Based coding - Live Online Coding Class-2

Getting Started
Use a computer, a supported browser and access to Code.org App Lab. Create a small practice project before following a larger tutorial. Learn to switch between design and code views, identify a screen and give each interactive element a unique meaningful name. Keep separate copies of a working project before changing its data structure or logic. Use fictional records in learning apps and test with more than one sample user when a workflow requires it. For the Thunkable track, prepare the workspace and the supported preview or device-testing method used by your account. Identify permissions and external-service requirements for a camera, location or notification feature before reproducing it. Some platform features or publishing paths can depend on an account plan. Begin with a local interaction that you can test without several connected services.

Learning Roadmap: Variables and Arrays in App Lab Live Tutorial 4

Learning Roadmap
Complete App Lab foundations, event logic and data records before using the larger project library. For every screen, identify the input, the action, the state that changes and the result the user should see. When a workflow stores data, specify the fields and the rule for identifying a record. Test that a repeated click does not create an unintended extra action or timer. Follow the account-and-data examples as prototypes, then study the Thunkable track in its module order. Use the later communication and utility projects to practise a particular skill or extend your final assignment. Select a small set of projects to complete independently rather than copying many interfaces without understanding their behavior. Keep a written test case for empty input, a duplicate record or an unavailable connected service where applicable.

Lesson Overview: Variables and Arrays in App Lab Live Tutorial 4
Trace the initial values, the event or repeated step that changes them and the output displayed by the app. Give important elements and variables names that describe their purpose. Follow one small input-to-result flow before combining several conditions.

Final Project and Completion Guide
Build a small study planner, quiz, checklist, appointment prototype or similar app suited to the covered environments. Provide a clear starting screen, a useful user interaction and a state or data feature that affects the result. Choose the platform that matches your project rather than combining App Lab and Thunkable code into one application. Use at least three test cases covering an ordinary action, an empty or invalid input and a repeat or restart condition. If a connected service is used, show the app's response when no usable result is returned. Submit a project link or exported files where supported, an explanation of the main event flow and a test log. Assess understandable screens, correct logic, predictable data behavior and one independently added feature. Demonstrate learning through the app's behavior and explanation, not only its visual resemblance to a guided example.
